Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Going home. Two words that instill a sense of comfort, of surety, of nostalgia. For those who have a home, these words can be calming or exciting and can call up many positive emotions. For those who have never had a place they can call home; for those who cannot ever say they are “going home” because no such place exists for them, this is a difficult concept. But God has put in each one of us a desire to have a place in which we feel a sense of safety, love, and belonging, and whether we have had a taste of it or not, deep inside each one of us is the realization that no physical place or person on this earth will be able to fulfill it.

When we say we are “going home” we usually mean we are going back to Haiti. On this earth, we mean we are going back to the place God has called us. We know this because when we are anywhere else our hearts are torn, wishing we were back there. Though many of our loved ones are still in the U.S. our “home” – the place we feel a sense of belonging and internal peace – is Haiti. Those other words: surety, comfort, safety, are not necessarily things we always experience in Haiti, but all that does is remind us that it is not our true Home. God does not call us to a life of surety or safety here on this earth. God calls us to follow Him.

We long for the day when we can experience all of those things: surety, safety, comfort, love, belonging, peace. God has placed that longing in us. Every time something on this earth is unsure; every time something in our lives does not feel comfortable or safe; every time we don’t understand what is happening or why it is happening only serves to remind us that we will one day be Home.

Please pray for us as we plan to return to our “Haiti-home” at the beginning of September. Pray that we can put the Lord first in all we do. Pray that we can keep our eyes on the goal no matter how many discouragements and frustrations the devil throws at us. Pray that through our example we can help those around us realize why “the whole creation groans” and that “…the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.” (Romans 8 18,22)

in the life of a Haitian teacher
With our new “Sponsor a Teacher” program
$100 a month will provide a teacher’s entire salary!

In Haiti we have the amazing opportunity to share Christ right in the classroom.
With your help, our Christian school can continue functioning at its best.
By hiring (and being able to consistently pay) talented, Christ-following Haitian teachers, this is possible!

School in Haiti starts in one month, and we need to be able to assure our teachers they can count on a consistent salary. Generous donors have pledged to sponsor eight of our teachers, but that means we need four more pledges of $100 a month (for 10 months – $1000 for the year) by September 1st!

Can you help?

Contact Shaina Ascone at: (309) 255-5393 or [email protected] if you would like to partner with us by participating in this program!

How to pray for our school in Haiti:

Pray that:

  • the teachers we hire would above all display a Christ-like mindset and lifestyle to their students
  • the teachers would share our vision for the school and mission and help us to accomplish it
  • God would send the students who are most in need of love and to hear His truth
  • the students would be eager and willing to learn and grow
  • the students would do their best and in all their work and play they would glorify God
  • we would have the means necessary to pay the teachers, provide supplies for students and classrooms, expand if necessary, and keep the school safe and clean for our children
  • more partners would jump on board to sponsor teachers and students so that this ˄ is possible
  • the school and all involved would be a light to the surrounding community; that Christ would be displayed and above all that God would be glorified

Ministry Opportunity:

With Shaina’s job changing to a State-side position, we are looking for someone to come teach the kids (Kelsey and Josiah)!  Please contact Shaina at [email protected] for details on the job description if you are interested!

Please pray for me (Dee), as I will be homeschooling the kids until

this position is filled, and for wisdom and energy to also accomplish

all the tasks and demands of the ministry.

Thank you for your faithful partnership!

With Love, The Dorcés
